Mikayla Barreiro Email [email protected] Bio/Description My love for the long history and reception of antiquity has sent me from a BA (’21) at Tufts to Yale for an MA (’22) in Medieval Studies, then back to Tufts for a second MA (’24) in Classical Studies. I enjoy the perspective gained from keeping my studies broad, both geographically and temporally, but generally research women in the Latin-speaking world. My MA thesis, “Feelings, Rules, and Emotional Labor in the Roman World,” explored the economic and social implications of something as seemingly natural as emotions. I look forward to continuing similar work at Princeton, while also developing new interests. Going forward, I also hope to develop my public-facing work on antiquity in the media; such representations can have extremely positive or negative impacts on the society we live in and deserve expert attention. After work hours, I can be found baking brownies, watching geese with my fiancé, or writing fantasy novels. Anyone who wants to chat about Percy Jackson, applying to graduate school, or feeling out of place in academia should always feel free to reach out.
