Chiara Battisti works on the epigraphy and culture of the late Roman Republic; other research interests include inscriptions from Hellenistic and Roman Thrace and Asia Minor (Ionia, Lycia), imperial biographies in Late antiquity, and historical poetry from eleventh century Byzantium.
She has participated in archaeological projects in Italy (Peltuinum) and Greece (Molyvoti, MTAP). In summer 2023 she will work at the American Archaeological Excavations on Samothrace and the Pompeii I.14 Project.

Before coming to Princeton she received her BA and MA in Classics from the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ and her MSt in Greek and Roman History from the University of Oxford. She spent periods of research in Heidelberg, Cambridge, and Athens (Gennadius Library); in 2023/2024 she will be a visiting student at the École normale supérieure (Paris).
