Bellina Gaskey

Bio/Description

I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in 2021 with an Honors BA in Classical Languages and Literature. My senior thesis synthesized Ovid's Medicamina faciei feminae, Amores, and Ars amatoria to explore the concepts of "cultivation" (cultus) and "art" (ars) as they relate to ideas about women's economic and sexual activity

My current research interests include late Republican and early Imperial Latin poetry, the idea of "luxury" in dialogues about imperial expansion and cultural exchange, and portrayals of women ("real" or mythological) in ancient literature broadly.
