Caroline Mann *19

I began the Ph.D. program in Princeton in the fall of 2013 and am a member of the Program in the Ancient World. My research interests lie in Roman religion, particularly of the Republican period. My dissertation project explores instances of religious transgression during the Republic. I ask questions about how episodes of transgression are used to delineate religious norms, how religious malaise is expressed, how the gods are thought to respond to misdeed, and the relationship between the individual and community. More broadly, I am interested in Roman cultural and social history in the Republic and early Empire.

Prior to coming to Princeton, I grew up in Syracuse, New York and received my B.A. in Classics in 2013 from Yale University, where I wrote a senior thesis on the Augustan Secular Games.
