Faculty Funding Resources Magie Funding The Magie fund supports Department of Classics faculty in the following ways: travel to scholarly conferences, research projects that lead to publication, and subvention of books authored as described below. Applications are accepted from tenured and tenure-track faculty, and retired faculty who remain actively engaged in scholarship. Include below a statement of purpose and description of the project; some indication of the nature and likelihood of publication resulting from the project; and a proposed budget.Equivalent funding supports Department of Classics staff in the same ways, i.e. travel to scholarly conferences, research projects that lead to publication, and subvention of books authored, as described below. Please apply using the Magie form. Cull Funds The Cull funds can be used to cover expenses related to invited lecturers in graduate and undergraduate seminars. Requires approval from the Department Chair and the Cull committee. Please apply using the Cull Funds form. Event Support The Department of Classics has limited funding to support co-sponsorship for conferences, workshops/reading groups, lectures, performances, and similar events. Co-sponsorship will be provided to events that already have support from their home departments. All applications must include a project proposal, event budget, and the amount of all sources of funding. Please apply using the Event Support form. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Projects The Department of Classics seeks proposals for projects led by students or arising out of faculty-student collaborations in line with departmental diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Any number of critical approaches to the study of religion may be used in the course, and the topic can be defined as a specific tradition or more broadly in terms of the interaction between religion and other aspects of culture. Humanities Council Magic Grants Magic Grants are awarded to faculty for new projects that change the way the humanities are conceived or taught. The Magic Project provides innovation grants from 5,000 to 75,000. Learned Society Travel Fund The intent of the Learned Society Fund is to support travel to attend conferences in which the participant is presenting a peer reviewed scholarly work to an open audience of members of the discipline. Humanities Exploratory Grants The Council offers funding of $5,000 to $20,000 to help pairs or groups of faculty develop a collaborative area of focus that will generate research or teaching in emerging or underrepresented fields in the humanities.
