Application for Cull Funds (Classics Faculty Only)

The Cull funds can be used to cover expenses related to invited lecturers in graduate and undergraduate seminars. Requires approval from the Department Chair and the Cull committee.

Cull Fund Guest Speaker Guidelines:

  • Honorarium – The guest will be paid standard honorarium for a visiting speaker, currently $350.
  • Travel expenses- Reasonable travel expenditures will be reimbursed, assuming that such visitors are coming from nearby / domestic . It might include train tickets, or a few hours driving distance (in which case we'll reimburse expenses for tolls and for mileage at the standard going rate). If in doubt about "nearby" and "reasonable", ask.
  • Accommodation - 1 (one) or 2 (two) nights of hotel at the university negotiated rate will be reimbursed. One night is preferable to two, and if the speaker stays in someone's house or apartment, no reimbursement beyond the department's real gratitude.
  • Meals and dinners - One lunch with the speaker and the host will be paid. Other guests are not included in the lunch. One dinner, up to 4 people (including speaker), maximum $75 per head - Cull will pay only a maximum of $150 (2 people), $225 (3 people), or $300 (4 or more).
