LocationPrinceton, New Jersey, is located midway between Philadelphia and New York City, with direct train service to either downtown in about one hour. Buses to New York leave every half hour from the campus. The vast cultural, culinary, and recreational resources of these cities are thus easily accessible. Newark Liberty International is the closest large airport, about 55 minutes by car.The 600-acre central campus is in the heart of Princeton (where the use of the word campus for college grounds originated), and the Department of Classics lies at the heart of the campus. Most graduate student housing is one to two miles from the department, while within 100 yards of our offices in East Pyne Hall are the Graduate School Office (in Clio behind Nassau Hall); Chancellor Green Cafe, also in East Pyne; Firestone Library, where all departmental graduate students are assigned desks or carrels; the nondenominational University chapel; the University art museum and Marquand Library for books on art and archaeology; and (among others) the Departments of Art and Archaeology, Comparative Literature, History, Philosophy, and Religion. All of this saves considerable time and effort and fosters a sense of community both during and after hours. For detailed information on visiting Princeton (directions, alternative modes of transportion, etc.) please visit the campus travel page.
